This 50-minute lesson not only introduces students to different types of Christmas-themed picture frames but also encourages creative expression while celebrating the joy of the holiday season.
Lesson Objective:
Students will explore various styles of Christmas picture frames and learn how to use them creatively in art projects.
Materials Needed:
A variety of Christmas-themed picture frames (paper or cardboard)
Colored paper for vibrant decorations
Scissors to craft unique designs
Glue sticks for assembling their creations
Crayons or markers to add personal flair
Optional: Photos or drawings to showcase in their frames
Lesson Structure:
Introduction (5 minutes): Begin the session by displaying a selection of Christmas picture frames. Facilitate a discussion on the unique features of each frame, emphasizing how they enhance the beauty of photos and drawings during the festive season.
Types of Christmas Frames (10 minutes): Introduce students to different frame styles, including Santa frames, Christmas tree frames, snowflake designs, and holly and berries frames. Discuss how each style evokes a unique Christmas spirit.
Frame Decorating Activity (20 minutes): Distribute plain paper frames and guide students in decorating them with colored paper, crayons, or markers. Encourage them to choose themes like Santa’s workshop, snowy scenes, reindeer, or Christmas trees, promoting imagination and creativity.
Share and Explain (10 minutes): Have students present their decorated frames to the class and explain their design choices. Foster a supportive atmosphere by encouraging positive feedback from peers.
Closing Activity (5 minutes): Conclude by discussing where students might display their frames at home, suggesting they use them for family photos or personal artwork. Remind them how frames can transform ordinary pictures into cherished memories.
This lesson plan not only provides a fun, interactive way for students to explore Christmas picture frames but also nurtures creativity and self-expression. Additionally, the accompanying DOK questions encourage deeper thinking about gift-giving and the meaning behind homemade creations, making this lesson a comprehensive celebration of the holiday spirit!
I would like to introduce a brand new concept in thinking. Thinking Scarves.
For a long time I was a huge fan of thinking hats... until a teacher one day wrote to me and said she did not like Thinking Hats as the Black Hat was very negative and could help to reinforce negative stereotypes about the colour black. In contrast, "White" was seen as a straight down the line, honest hat. The facts, pure and simple, without and falsification or misinterpretation.
I then thought I am a teacher. Why not simply reinvent the whole system - forget about hats - scarves are the answer. With scarves, you can share them between friends, creating a closer bond between the thinkers. Make a thinking system which works perfectly in a primary school environment.
Green - What is positive - makes you feel good?
Red - What is negative? What makes you feeling angry or upset?
Purple - what are your general feelings towards a character? Like purple, feelings can be hard to define.
Gold - Make 'n' Shake - Follow your dreams and all the streets will be paved in gold.
Blue : Facts - Facts, like the sea and sky can appear endless.
Guide: No scarves, just a handy bag to carry all the scarves in and organise them into some sort of order.
I would love other people's opinions on this concept.
Teachers need some fun to. This is my adult colouring book for teachers. You could print it out for your class to quietly colour during tests (when they have completed them to calm and relax them), or during long staff meetings - nothing is more relaxing and constructive than a little light colouring.
This is to encourage staff to have a little time every day to think and reflect and not work. This is my attempt at improving the good life balance of staff.
All these images were in the public domain. In the majority of the cases however, it took both a long time to find, then even longer to use editing software to sharpen and improve the images.
I would love to know what people think of them.
Teaching grammar should be fun, fast paced and enjoyable. I have taken the 2014 SATS past papers and I have combined the test paper and the official marking schemes into single PowerPoint presentations. This means you can now ask a question, get the students to show you the answer, and then show the original answer and check their understanding. I know my class really enjoys this teaching method.
I wanted to make Year 6 SATs revision more fun. I have combined each of the 2015 Past SATs papers for maths questions and the marking scheme into a single document. This means that a teacher can now show a single question and get the students to find the answer before moving onto the next question.
This makes revision a lot less stressful. I have removed the time limits and of course students can now work in pairs or small teams to discuss their different strategies and answers. It also helps to make the lessons faster paced and snappier as the children start to gain confidence in their abilities to solve maths problems.
This resource could be used in the classroom or at home to prepare for the UK Year 6 SATs exams. Students should try all the tests to gain the deepest knowledge of this subject.
Please leave me a comment below about this teaching resource.
When I am revising maths, I like to ask a question and then the students answer it on their mini whiteboards. We then check the answer on the following slide. I have combined the test papers with the marking scheme, making teaching and learning a lot more fun.
There is differentiated revision material. There are tests for levels 3 - 5, and tests for level 6, and some which are for all the students. All the students should try all the tests, to both consolidate and extend their learning to make sure they have the maximum chance of reaching their true potential.
I have presented them in the different PowerPoint formats for the older and more modern computers.
Did you know pairing a high achieving and less high achieving child together actually helps both? As the more advanced student explains how to solve a problem, they too improve their knowledge of mathematical vocabulary.
I like to ask the class a question, give the class a certain amount of time to solve the question and then show me the answer on their mini whiteboards. I have taken the KS2 SATs numeracy question papers for the 2015 test and combined the question and answer booklets into a single presentation. This is a great way of teaching as there is an instant feedback and explanation as to how to solve each problem. This helps to challenge and consolidate the classes learning.
This teaching resource could be used for whole class teaching and checking, or at home as a one to one resource with a tutor. These teaching resources make maths less stressful and so the students are more motivated to succeed!
I have created resources for levels 3-5 and also separate resources for Level 6 students. All the students should attempt all the papers to both consolidate and strengthen their basic learning and also extend their skills to a higher level.

Make target setting an interactive, hands on activity! This ideas is based on a simple 3D square based pyramid net. There is space on each side for students to write down their monthly English, Maths and Social targets. There is also a space for their name and something they learnt in the previous month.
I added the motivational quotes so students appreciate what they are learning towards. I added the positive behaviour system, where the students move around the track each time they achieve their pyramids targets! The harder they work, the faster they move around the track. Lots of fun for everyone!
I have created this worksheet in black and white so teachers can either print them on white paper or onto different coloured papers, the idea being to change the colour of the pyramid every month, so everyone knows which pyramid they should now be following.

I love Year 5 Wigan Maths Tests. While they are little old and don’t follow the current curriculum, they are still an excellent set of tests for revision purposes. I have taken the traditional tests and converted them all into PowerPoint presentations. On top of this, I have given teachers the option of either letting the students only see the answers at the end or after each question. I really like the second option as it means I can set a question, then give them a little time to think about it or discuss it in pairs and then show them the answer and discuss the different ways different children or different pairs found their answers. This is as much a learning experience as the test itself for many children. I really hope this pack is useful for lots of teachers.
